Quotient-Designed Smithsonian Web Site Wins Best Archives on the Web Award

COLUMBIA, MD, August 2, 2010—The Smithsonian Institution’s Collections Search Center web site, designed and launched by Quotient in late 2009, was awarded the 2010 Best Archives on the Web Award in the category of Best Re-purposing of Descriptive Data.

The awards are sponsored by the ArchivesNext blog and were selected by a jury that consisted of Christine Di Bella of the Institute for Advanced Study; Cory Nimer of Brigham Young University; Lance Stuchell of the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research; and Chela Weber of the Brooklyn Historical Society.

The Collections Search Center site, http://collections.si.edu/, provides a searchable, centralized location for staff, researchers, educators, students, and visitors to search the vast collection of over 2 million objects in the distributed catalogs and archives of the Smithsonian Institution. Quotient is currently extending the interactive capabilities of the website to include sharing and social networking tools, as well as mapping and geo-location functions.
